The ancient process is called distillation. Below is a diagram of distilling water (H20) out of salt water. The water will vaporize out of the heated glass and then cool down in the condenser. By then, the water vapor will turn to liquid water and drip from the condenser into the receiving flask. All that is left in the heated glass will be the soluble crystals that are now separate from the H20. There are many kinds of distillation. You can distill several molecules from one solution. The solvent doesn’t have to be H20
