Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

2x + y = 5

3x + 2y = 8

x =    b1c2 - b2c1

         a1b2 - a2b1

y =  c1a2 - c2a1

       a1b2 - a2b1

These are the shortcut formula for cross multiplication . These are allowed by CBSE . So it can be useful

Here :

a1 = 2 , b1 = 1 , c1 = -5

a2 = 3 , b2 = 2 , c2 = -8

x = b1c2 - b2c1

      a1b2 - a2b1

x =  1(-8) - 2 (-5)

      2 (2) - 3 (1)

x = -8 + 10

      4 - 3

x = 2

y =  c1a2 - c2a1

      a1b2 - a2b1

y = (-5) (3) - (-8) (2)

      2(2) - 3 (1)

y = -15 + 16

     4 - 3

y = 1

SO THE VALUE OF X AND Y ARE  2 AND 1 RESPECTIVELY
