1) 7.21 = 3 significant figures .

2) 12.141 = 5 significant figures.

3) 2.45 = 3 significant figures .

4) 0.0028 = 2 significant figures !!

There are three rules on determining how many significant figures are in a number:

•Non-zero digits are always significant.

for ex = 2.14...etc .

•Any zeros between two significant digits are significant. ex= 1.102...etc

•A final zero or trailing zeros in the decimal portion ONLY are significant.

The problem comes with numbers like 0.00980 or 28.09.

in 0.00980 there are 3 significant figure ,since , 0 comes after a non zero number !!
