therefore x = 13 + y

Substituting in (1)

13 + y + y = 35

13 + 2y = 35

2y = 35 - 13

2y = 22

y = 11............(2)

Substituting (2) in (1)

x + 11 = 35

x = 24

Therefore the numbers are 11 and 24
