Step-by-step explanation:

if y varies inversely as x

=> xy = constant

(a) since x increased by 20% => x' = 6x/5

let y changed to y'

=> x'y' = xy

=> (6x/5) y'= xy

=> y' = 5y/6 = (5×100/6)% of y = (83int 1/3) %

=> % change in y = 100-83 int1/3

= (16 integer 2/3)% decreasing

(b) % change. in x =100×100/40-100

=250-100

= 150%

hope this helps you
