5. The area of the square is (4x2-2x-6) square units. A triangle inside the square has an
area (x2 - 4x + 5) square units. Find the area of the shaded portion

Answer:

3x² + 2x - 11 sq units.

area of square = 4x² - 2x -6 (1)

area of triangle = x² - 4x + 5 (2)

as per given condition area of square is equal to area of triangle plus remaining area ( Y )

therefore (1) = (2) + area of remaining portion

4x² - 2x -6 = (x² - 4x + 5) + Y

4x² - 2x -6 - (x² - 4x + 5) = Y

3x² + 2x - 11 = Y

so area of shaded portion will be

( Y ) = 3x² + 2x - 11 sq units
