Answer:

i. number of fruit trees=16

number of non-fruit trees=52

ii. Total cost of plantation is 44840

Step-by-step explanation:

i. Let the number of fruit trees be = x

Let the number of non-fruit trees be= 4+ 3x

⇒4 + 3x + x = 68

⇒4 +4x = 68

⇒4x = 68 - 4

⇒4x = 64

⇒4x/4 = 64/4

∴ x = 16

From the solution above we can say that there are sixteen fruit trees.

So the number of non-fruit trees will be 4 + 3(16) = 52.

ii.  To find the cost of planting the fruit trees, you must multiply 16(number of fruit trees) by 2250(cost of planting a fruit tree).

2250×16=36000.

To find the cost of planting the non-fruit trees, you must multiply 52(number of non-fruit trees) by 170(the cost of planting a non-fruit tree).

52×170=8840

So the total cost of plantation will be 36000(cost of plantation of fruit trees)+8840(cost of plantation of non-fruit trees)=44840

∴ The total cost of plantation is 44840.
