Tom and Jerry are very good friends, but they quarrel a lot. One day they had a quarrel while
playing marbles. Jerry did not know how many marbles Tom had but Tom knew exactly how many
marbles Jerry had, so Tom proudly announced- "I have 10 marbles more than twice the number of
marbles you have." Jerry being more clever among the two asked “Do you know how many marbles
do we have together”?. Tom again proudly replied “100". Jerry quickly calculated the number of
marbles Tim had. Find the number of marbles Tom had.

Answer:

Tom had 70 marbles.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let us assume that Jerry had x no. of marbles.

Then according to Tom, he had,

2x+10 marbles.

So, if the total no. of marbles both had are 100.

Then, 2x+10+x = 100

=> 3x = 100 - 10

=> x = 90/3

=> x = 30

Now, if Jerry had 30 marbles, then Tom had (100 - 30) = 70 marbles.
