We start in typical algebra way by saying let the first number be x and the second number be y. We can then write the two parts statements as

2x + 3y = 28

4x + 5y = 50

We can now DOUBLE the first statement THROUGHOUT

4x + 6y = 56

This leaves the number of xs the same in both. If we compare the two - which we do by taking away the second from the doubled first, we gey

y = 6

We can use this new information in one of the questions.

2x + 3 x 6 = 28 so 2x = 10, so x = 5

That gives values for botn, but never miss a chance to check your answer. Use the second eqaution to do this*

4 x 5 + 5 * 6 = 20 +30 = 50 - As we told it was
