Given: The equations: 5/x+1 - 2/y-1 = 1/2 and 10/x+1 + 2/y-1 = 5/2

To find: The value of x and y.

Solution:

  • Let 1/x+1 be u and 1/y-1 be v.

               5u - 2v = 1/2 and 10u + 2v = 5/2

               10u - 4v = 1 and 20u + 4v = 5

  • Solving them, we get:

               10u - 4v = 1        .................(i)

               20u + 4v = 5    .................(ii)

               30u = 6

               u = 1/5

  • Putting u in (i), we get:

               10(1/5) - 4v = 1

               2 - 4v = 1

               1 = 4v

               v = 1/4

  • Re substituting the values, we have:

               1/x+1 = u = 1/5

               x + 1 = 5

               x = 4

               1/y-1 = v = 1/4

               y - 1 = 4

               y = 5

Answer:

          So the value of x is 4 and y is 5.

Step-by-step explanation:

4 and 5

5÷X+ 1÷y=2

6÷X-3÷y=1

Xis not equal to 0 and y is not equal to 0
