Uses of Non-metals:
1.Chlorine is used in bleacing powder and liquid bleach, which are used for cleaning purposes.
Chlorine is also very efficient disinfectant, hence added in public water to kill disease causing pathogens.
2.Noble gases such as neon, argon, krypton are used in different types of lights.
3.Diamond is used in industries for cutting of glass, etc.
4.Coal , another form of carbon, is used as a fuel.
5.Nitrogen is used in manufacturing of ammonia.
6.Oxygen cylinders are used for breathing in emergency cases.
7.In manufacturing of metal alloys, carbon is added in different proportions to get alloys of required strength etc.
8.Chlorine is used in manufacturing of PVC plastic,
9.Flourine in Teflon,
10.Nitrogen in Urea polymers etc .
These are some uses of non-metals. In addition to these uses non-metals are essential building blocks of naturally occuring compounds. e.g. nitrogen, carbon and hydrogen in amino acids. These amino acids then form proteins.
