CₓHₙ + (X+ n/4) O₂→ xco₂ + n/2 H₂O

comparing with the above equation

     x+n/4=10

       x= 5

hence n/4=5

         n=20

so the hydrocarbon for 5 mole  is C₅H₂₀

Hence the hydrocarbon is CH₄
