Osmosis is the movement of water from a region of high concentration to low concentration through a semi permeable membrane.

If a red blood cell is put in a concentrated salt solution, they will become shrunken or crenated. If the medium surrounding the cell has a lower concentrationof water than the cell, (i.e. if it is a very concentrated solution), the cell will loose water by osmosis. So in this case water crosses the plasma membrane in both the directions, but more amount of water leaves the cell then enters it.
