5 What happens to
potential energy of a
body when:
a) height is doubled
b) mass is reduced
to half.
Answers
a) Since the gravitational potential energy of an object is directly proportional to its height above the zero position, a doubling of the height will result in a doubling of the gravitational potential energy. A tripling of the height will result in a tripling of the gravitational potential energy.
b) When mass is halved , Potential energy decreases by half . Therfore when we halved the mass and double the velocity then the kinetic energy will increase because there is square on velocity while mass is just having 1 power therefore kinetic energy will increase.
Additional info::
The amount of gravitational potential energy an object has depends on its height and mass. The heavier the object and the higher it is above the ground, the more gravitational potential energy it holds. Gravitational potential energy increases as weight and height increases.
