When dilute hydrochloric acid reacts with sodium carbonate, then sodium chloride, carbon dioxide and water are formed. The gas evolved when the acid reacts with sodium carbonate is passed through lime water, lime water turns milky or white precipitate of calcium carbonate is formed.
