The Poet Says this because the bird has made his first flight. Before that flight, he was afraid if flying and he used to sit on the ledge and watched his brothers and sisters learning to fly. He was scared Thar's why he never learned to fly. When he was out of hunger, he asked his mother to give him that food. She ignores her than he made his first flight due to hunger. After that he felt like it was so easy to fly. He was flapping his wings and can dive. That's why the Poet says so.
