The 'Tamil Nadu Health Secretary' 'Dr J Radhakrishnan' was visiting a nearby town when he realised that he had not met 'Meenu or Meena for over 3 years'. He decided to drop in to 'meet her as a surprise', and when they met, 'she called him Appa', and 'he turned emotional' and 'his eyes welled up'.
EXPLANATION:
- A tragedy 14 years ago, along with destiny and it was some 'well-meaning locals' who had brought 'Meena into Radhakrishnan's life'. Meena was found alone under a 'dilapidated bridge' near 'Keechankuppam' the days after the 'Tsunami had struck' down the 'coastal town of Nagapattinam'. She was handed over to the care of 'Radhakrishnan and his wife'. In the year '2004', 'Tsunami' alone had killed more than '6,000 people'.
- There had been numerous houses lost, 73 seaside settlements have been washed and almost 2 lakhs have been taken into 'state-wide relief camps'. In the district, 99 small boys and girls lost either one of the parent or both. The future of these children, bereft from a family, was in the hands of the government.
- The late 'Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa' had called Radhakrishnan and asked him to help build an orphanage under the Tsunami Rehabilitation Project for these children immediately. Therefore, 'Annai Sathya Illam' was constructed, where the children got a home. For the initial few years, 'Radhakrishnan and his wife' visited Meena every week. After some time, this reduced to once in a year and then once in '2-3 years', since the kids were put in the capable hands of late 'Suryakala', Social Welfare officer at the orphanage.
