Eskimos wear ski line shoes because they have to hunt full day and it may be possible to wear casual shoes during hunting because if they wear casual shoes they would shrink in water.

So, to avoid this kind of situations eskimos wear ski-like footwear. Wider area of the footwear reduces pressure and thus prevents the Eskimo’s feet from sinking in ice.
