Not all lakes stay unfreezed but a few lakes freeze till the bottom.

The main reason that lakes doesn't freeze all the way through is that as we go down till the bottom of the

lake the pressure increases. The increase in the pressure increases the temprature as pressure is directly proportional to temprature. Increase in temperature down the lake doesn't create the favourable conditions for freezing of the lake.

Also as ice is less dense as compared to water that is why ice always floats on water and doesn't settle down at the bottom or that is the reason why the lake doesn't start to freeze from the bottom.
