Grandmother had specifically asked them not to bring it along. Later,

Grandmother went to sleep. Just then the narrator found that he was

hungry. He opened the tiffin basket to find Grandfather's pet python

was curled up. contentedly on the remains of their dinner. Grandfather

snapped the basket shut and pushed it back beneath the berth.
