Above 4800 meters, the rocky tundra begins to give way to snow fields. Not many animals can survive these heights, but one that can is the mighty yak, which can climb up to 6100m (20,000 feet). The yak has two thick coats of fur that help it survive the cold. Enlarged hearts and lungs help it get the oxygen it needs.
