The places they lived in where called monasteries...They also took a vow to obey the cheif of the monastery.Their only mission in life was to pray and preach and to spread moral techniques among the common people.

2. monasteries encouraged literacy, promoted learning and preserve the classes of ancient literature, including the works of cicero, Virgil, ovid and Aristotle.
