Given:

  • 5 - x = y
  • y + 3 = x

To Find:

  • Value of x and y.

Solution:

We are given that,

⇒ 5 - x = y -----(1)

And,

⇒ y + 3 = x ------(2)

Transposing 3 to RHS,

⇒ y = x - 3 -----(3)

Equating (1) & (3),

⇒ 5 - x = x - 3

Transposing x to RHS and 3 to LHS,

⇒ 5 + 3 = x + x

⇒ 8 = 2x

⇒ 2x = 8

⇒ x = 4

Substituting x in (1),

⇒ 5 - x = y

⇒ 5 - 4 = y

⇒ y = 1

Hence, value of x and y is 4 and 1 respectively.
