It's given that
5 year ago a man age was 7 times as his son
Lets assume man age x
And son age y

So in equation
(x - 5) = 7 (y - 5)
x - 5 = 7y - 35
x = 7y - 30.........equation 1

And in 2nd statement
The equation would be
x + 5 = 3 ( y + 5)
By equation 1 we get
7y - 30 + 5 = 3y + 15
4y = 40
y = 10

Therefore
Son age = y = 10 years

Now father

From question we got
x + 5 = 3(y + 5)
x = 3(15) - 5
x = 45 - 5
x = 40

Therefore father age = x = 40
