• Let my present age be M and present age of my daughter be N.

☞ Case 1.

» 5 years ago..

My age = (M - 5) years.

Daughter's age = (N - 5) years.

  • A.T.Q.

=> M - 5 = 3(N - 5)

=> M - 5 = 3N - 15

=> M - 3N = - 15 + 5

=> M - 3N = - 10

=> M = 3N - 10 ________ (eq 1)

______________________________

☞ Case 2.

» 10 years hence/later..

My age = M + 10

Daughter's age = N + 10

  • A.T.Q.

=> M + 10 = 2(N + 10)

=> M + 10 = 2N + 20

=> M = 2N + 10

=> (3N - 10) = 2N + 10 [From (eq 1)]

=> 3N - 10 = 2N + 10

=> 3N - 2N = 10 + 10

=> N = 20

• Put value of N in (eq 1)

=> M = 3(20) - 10

=> M = 60 - 10

=> M = 50

______________________________

My present age = M = 50 years

and

My daughter's present age = N = 20 years.
