Given 5 year ago Rahul father was five times the age of Rahul

and at present the sum of Rahul and father age is 40 year

Let the present age of Rahul be x and that of father be Y

FIVE YEARS AGO

5(x-5) = (y -5 )

5x -25 = y - 5

y = 5x -20

y = 5( x-4)                   (i)

AT PRESENT

x + y = 40                  (ii)

Using (i) and (ii)

y = 40 - x = 5x -20

     40 + 20 = 5x + x

    6x = 40 +20 = 60

      x = 10

 and y = 40 - 10

      y = 30

Hence the present age of Rahul and his father is 10 and 30 respectively

❍ Let the present age of rahul be x years and rahul's father age be 5x respectively.

After 5 years their ages will be:-

• Rahul's age = (x + 5) years
• His father's age = (5x + 5) years
