5 years ago a man was 7 times as old as his son. After 5 years he will be thrice as old as his son. Find their present ages.

Let the present ages of the father and son be x and y respectively..

Now, 5 years ago
father's age = x-5
son's age = y-5

x-5 = 7(y-5)
it gives, 7y-x=30 --------(i)

Now, after 5 years
father's age = x+5
son's age = y+5

x+5 = 3(y+5)
x-3y= 10 ----------(ii)

Solving (i) &(ii)
x = 40 years
y = 10 years
