let the present age of father = y years

7(x-5)=y-5

7x-35=y-5

7x-y=30. -------(1)

3(x+5)=y+5

3x+15=y+5

3x-y=-10. ----------(2)

by the method of elemination

7x-y=30

3x-y=-10

70-y=30

y=40

The present age of son is 10 years
