50 1/2* 49 1/2

Rewrite:

= ( 50 + 1/2) (50 - 1/2)

Apply: (a + b) (a - b) = a² - b²:

= (50)² - (1/2)²

Evaluate each bracket:

= 2500 - 1/4

Answer:

= 2499 3/4

Answer: 2499 3/4

50 1/2 can be written as 101/2 and
49 1/2 can be written as 99/2

These two take the form,
 \frac{(100+1)*<br />(100-1)}{2*2} [when you multiply both of the fractions]
The numerator can be written as,
 100^2-1^2,  [because  (a+b)(a-b) = a^2-b^2 ]
And denominator = 4;
Now the fraction becomes,

 \frac{10000-1}{4} <br /><br />=9999/4
