The probability that the bag selected at random weights 9.8 kg or more = 17/50

Given :

50 bags of wheat flour, each marked 10 kg actually give the following data:

Weight of each bag (in kg) :- Number of bags:-

9.4-9.6kg - 10 bags

9.6-9.8kg - 23 bags

9.8-10.0 kg - 17 bags

To find :

The probability that the bag selected at random weights 9.8 kg or more

Solution :

Step 1 of 3 :

Find total number of possible outcomes

There are 50 bags of wheat flour

So total number of possible outcomes = 50

Step 2 of 3 :

Find total number of possible outcomes for the event

Let A be the event that of selecting a bag of weights 9.8 kg or more

Since the number of bags for weight 9.8 - 10.0 kg is 17

So total number of possible outcomes for the event A is 17

Step 3 of 3 :

Find the probability

Hence the required probability

= P(A)

\displaystyle \sf{  =  \frac{Number \:  of  \: favourable \:  cases \:  to \:  the \:  event \:  A }{Total \:  number  \: of \:  possible \:  outcomes }}

 \displaystyle \sf{ =  \frac{17}{50} }
