50 gram of ice at zero degree Celsius is added to 300 gram of a liquid at 30 degree Celsius what will be the final temperature of the mixture when all the ice has melted ?the specific heat capacity of the liquid is 2.65 joule per gram per Kelvin while that of water is 4.2 joule per gram per Kelvin specific latent heat of fusion of ice is 336 joule per gram

The temperature of mixture = 7°

Explanation:

Here in this case , when ice is added into liquid . The ice will gain the heat and liquid will lose it . By principle of calorimetery

Heat gained by ice = heat lost by liquid

m₁ L + m₁ c θ = m₂ s ( 30 - θ)

here m₁ is the mass of ice

L is the latent heat and c is the specific heat of water

θ is the temperature of mixture

m₂ is mass of liquid and s is its specific heat

Thus 50 x 336 + 50 x 4.2 x θ = 300 x 2.65 x ( 30 - θ)

23850 - 16800 = ( 1005 )θ

or θ = 7050/1005 = 7°

Thus the final temperature of mixture

= 7°
