\textbf{CHEMICAL REACTION}

Chemical Reaction are the process in which new substances with new properties are formed.

\textbf{Types of Chemical Reaction}

There are 5 types of Chemical Reaction

★ Combination Reaction
★ Decomposition Reaction
★ Displacement Reaction
★ Double Displacement Reaction
★ Oxidation and Reduction Reaction

\textbf{COMBINATION REACTION}

Those reaction in which two or more substances combined to form a single substance are called combination reactions.

\textbf{Example}

Hydrogen burns in oxygen to form water.

2H_2 + O_2 \xrightarrow{\text{Combination}}2H_2O

\textbf{DECOMPOSITION REACTION}

Those reactions in which a compound splits up into two or more simpler substances are known as decomposition reaction.

\textbf{Example}

When silver chloride is exposed to light it decomposes to form silver metal and chlorine gas.

2AgCl\xrightarrow{\text{Light}}2Ag + Cl_2

\textbf{DISPLACEMENT REACTION}

Those reactions in which one element takes the place of another element in a compound are known as displacement reaction.

\textbf{Example}

Magnesium metal reacts with hydrochloric acid to form magnesium chloride and hydrogen.

Mg + 2HCl\xrightarrow{}Mg Cl_2 + H_2

\textbf{DOUBLE DISPLACEMENT REACTION}

Those reactions in which two compounds react by and exchange of ions to form two new compounds are called double displacement reaction.

\textbf{Example}

When Silver Nitrate solution is added to sodium chloride solution then the white precipitate of silver chloride is formed along with sodium nitrate solution.

AgNo_3 + NaCl\xrightarrow{} AgCl + NaNO_3

\textbf{OXIDATION AND REDUCTION REACTION}

\textbf{ Oxidation Reaction}

★ The addition of oxygen to a substance.
★ The removal of hydrogen from a substance.

\textbf{ Reduction Reaction}

★ The addition of hydrogen to a substance.
★ The removal of oxygen from a substance.

The oxidation and reduction reactions are also called redox reactions.

\textbf{Example}

When hydrogen sulphide reacts with chlorine than Sulphur and hydrogen Chloride are formed.

H_2S + Cl_2 \xrightarrow{} S + 2HCl

The types of chemical reactions:

Displacement reactions..

Ex. Zn+CuSO4=ZnSO4+Cu

Double displacement reactions..

Ex- AB+CD=CB+AD

Combination reactions..

Ex. 2H20+O2=2H2O

Elementary reactions..

There are two types of elementary reactions- Unimolecular

ex- A= product

and Bimolecular

Ex-A+B= product..
