So I'm a vegan for mostly environmental reasons. I'm also against of factory farming, but for something like hunting and fishing, I just don't actually have an issue with the actual killing of animals. Saving the planet is my motivator.
I know about the issues with commercial fishing, but how big is/is there an environmental impact on fishing? I don't do it myself but have lots of family who does. While I'm not here specifically for hunting issues, info on that would be cool as well.
In addition, seafoodwatch.org seems like a reputable source that focuses on only the environmental impact of fishing. What is the impact of something that would be considered "okay" from that site? How are those fish caught and what are the repercussions?
Sources are always appreciated. I'm not here to justify eating fish - quite the opposite, I'm looking for more information on why I shouldn't do it besides it sucks for the fish, and an explanation I can give to people when they ask why I don't
Current fish stocks in the ocean are dipping below sustainable levels, the ocean could be depleted within the next 50 years. Also, with the amount of junk we dump into the sea (industrial waste, sewage, plastic, etc.) the amount of bioaccumulation (and biomagnification in animal tissue) occurring in fish meat is appalling. Do not consume if you care about your health
