Metro Rrains are becoming a popular mode of travel in the recent times. It is a pro-development initiative since it aims at making transport easily available to the masses. Availability of such transport systems cut down on the burden of the road traffic by reducing the density of traffic.

• Metro rails run for the benefit of the masses. Thus a large number of people can be transported between destinations at the same time at a considerable speed.

मानव इतिहास के परिवहन के साधनों में हुए कुछ ऐतिहासिक बदलावों में मेट्रो ट्रेन प्रारंभिक तथा मुख्य बदलावों में से है। रेल निर्माण के शुरुआती दिनों में यात्रा बेहद लंबी हुआ करती थी जिसमें थोड़ी दूरी पर जाने के लिए भी कम से कम एक दिन लगते थे और लंबी दूरी के लिए कभी-कभी एक हफ्ते भी लग जाते थे। इंसान के विकास के रूप में मेट्रो मुख्य है।यातायात को सुगम और त्वरित बनाने के लिए मेट्रो रेल एक बेहतरीन खोज है। मेट्रो रेल यह भारत की राजधानी दिल्ली के परिवहन का एक बेहतरीन नमूना है। मेट्रो रेल को दिल्ली मेट्रो रेल निगम लिमिटेड के द्वारा संचालित किया जाता है जिसमें समय, श्रम और धन का एक बड़ा रूप खर्च होता है।मेट्रो रेल की शुरुआत 24 दिसंबर 2002 को दिल्ली के शाहदरा तीस हजारी रूट से हुई। मेट्रो की अधिकतम स्पीड विभिन्न रूटों के अनुसार 80 किलोमीटर प्रति घंटा तक रखी गई है क्योंकि इसे इंटरसिटी परिवहन के लिए उपयोग में लिया जाता है। मेट्रो रेल को रुकने के लिए स्पेशल मेट्रो स्टेशन का निर्माण किया गया है जहां मेट्रो अधिकतम 20 सेकंड के लिए रूकती हैं।भारत के सभी मेट्रो रेल का निर्माण दक्षिण कोरिया की कंपनी करती है। दिल्ली में मेट्रो के सफल उपयोग के बाद भारत के अन्य राज्य जैसे उत्तर प्रदेश, राजस्थान, हरियाणा वह गुजरात में भी मेट्रो को शुरू करने का प्रयास किया जा रहा है।
