The Himalayas :

The Himalayas are the mountains which runs in the West-East direction in the form of an arch. The length of the Himalayas 2400 kms and its width ranges from 200 kms to 500 kms.
The Himalayas consists of three parallel ranges. The range find towards north is called as "Himadri" or "Greater Himalayas". Its average height is 6100 mts.This region is composed of Ice and snow cover.
The range which is found towards south of Himadri is "Lesser Himalayas" or "Himachal" .Its average height ranges from 3400 to 4500 mts. This region is composed of Compressed rocks. Mahabharata and Pirpanjal are the prominent ranges of this region.
The range towards south is "Shivaliks" .Its average height ranges from 900 to 1100 mts and width ranges from 10 to 50 kms.
