50.
While measuring the length of the rod by vernier callipers the reading on main scale
is 6.4 cm and the eighth division on vernier is in line with marking on the main scale
division. If the least count of callipers is 0.01cm and zero error -0.04 cm, find the
length of the rod.
659 mm

THEORY

1. Vernier constant : It is the smallest distance that can be accurately measured with vernier scale. It is also knownas least count of that instrument.VC = 1 MSD – 1 VSD also=scaleverniertheondivisionof NumberTotalMSD1of value2. Zero Error : When the two jaws A and B of the instrument are brought together to touch each other, then itmay happen that the zero of the vernier scale does not concide with the zero of the main scale. This defectin the instrument is called the zero error.

A.(i)

Positive zero Error : The zero error is positive when the zero mark of the vernier scale lies toward the rightside of the zero of the main scale. It is so called positive because the measured length is always more thanthe actual length.
