500 ml of a certain gas at 30°C was cooled to -20°C by keeping the pressure
constant. Find the contraction in volume.​

By Charles' Law , keeping the pressure constant , volume of a given mass of a gas varies directly to the absolute temperature.

V1 / T1 = V2 / T2

30°C = 273 + 30 = 303K

-20°C = 273 - 20 = 253K

V1/303 = V2/253

V1/V2 = 303/253 = 1.198

So , V2 = 0.834 V1

Contraction in Volume = 0.166 V1 = 0.166 × 500 = 83 ml
