500 students are asked to stand in rows and columns for a PT . Is it possible to make them stand in such a way that there are an equal number of rows and columns? If not, how many children will be left out in this arrangement if we accommodate the maximum possible number of students?

Let the number of rows be x

We are given that the number of rows is equal to number of columns

So, x \times x = 500

\begin{gathered}x^2=500\\x=\sqrt{500}\\x=22.36\end{gathered}

So, Number of rows = 22 = number of columns

So, Number of students in arrangement =- 22*22=484

No. of children would be left out in this arrangement = 500 - 484 = 16

Hence 16 children would be left out in this arrangement
