Rabindranath tagore, who won the noble prize for literature, who wrote novels, essays, short stories, travelogues, dramas, and many songs but is mainly known for his exquisite poetry. He had a deep love and respect for nature which he expressed in his lyrical poetry. 
Rabindranath tagore’ s original name was Rabindranath thakur. He was born on 7 may 1861 in Kolkata. He was the youngest son of debendranath thakur (tagore)and sarada devi. Debendranath Tagore was a leader of the Brahmo Samaj, Rabindranath was raised by servants as ; his mother had died in his early childhood and his father travelled widely. He was educated at home and although at seventeen he was sent to England for formal schooling, he did not finish his studies there. In his mature years, he started a school at Shantiniketan where he tried his Upanishadic ideals of education. From time to time he participated in the Indian nationalist movement and Gandhi, the political father of modern India, was his devoted friend. Tagore was knighted by the ruling British Government in 1915, but within a few years he resigned the honour as a protest against British. He wrote many poems, songs etc. which made him famous specially in the west. He died on august 7, 1941 
His achievements are: 

• Rabindranath Tagore won Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913 and Rabindranath was the first Indian to won Nobel Prize. 

• In 1930 the Paintings of Rabindranath Tagore was exhibited in Paris and London. 

• Indian Postage Department showed their tribute to Rabindranath Thakur on 7th May 1961 when a Stamp released in the name of Rabindranath Tagore.
