Time taken in first drive is 10/40=1/4 hours.

Time taken for second drive is 10/60= 1/6 hours .

Total distance covered is 20km

Total Time taken is 1/6+1/4 = 10/24 hours

Average speed = 20 ÷ 10/24

= 20 × 24/10

= 48 km/hr
