The reaction of C6H5CH=CHCH3 with HBr produces C6H5CHBrCH2CH3

  • According to Markovnikov's Rule - negative part of the reagent i.e HBr attacks on that carbon atom which have less number of hydrogen atoms combined to them.
  • Therefore in this case, 1st carbon atom after C6H5 have least number of hydrogen attached to it.
  • Also +ve charge formed during reaction will be stablised by resonance by phenyl group.
  • Hence, 1-Bromo-1-phenyl propane will be formed in the above reaction.
