Mean speed actually refers to average speed.

As for the definition of average speed you always need to remember that it is given by Total distance travelled divided by total time.

So in circular motion, the distance travelled is a part of the circumference

(arc). Circumference = 2πr

Given : time period = π sec.

radius = 50 cm = 0.5 m

distance travelled =

half revolution = (2πr/2) = πr =π * 0.5 m

for half revolution, time taken = π/2 sec.

Therefore,

average speed= Total distance/Time

= (π * 0.5)/ (π/2)

= 1 m/s.
