Given :- In a race, Rahul touches the finish line in 30 seconds and beats Kunal by 10 seconds. If Rahul gives a start of 5 seconds to Kunal, then in how much time will he again beat Kunal in the race ?
(A) 15 seconds
(B) 30 seconds
(C) 25 seconds
(D) 5 seconds
Solution :-
we know that,
- A beats B by t seconds :- This statement implies that while A reached the winning point, B is behind A . Or, we can say that, B completes the race s seconds after A time..
- A can give B a start of s seconds :- This statement implies that A will start t minutes after B starts from the starting point. Both A and B will reach the finishing point at the same time.
So,
given that,
→ Rahul finish the race in = 30 seconds.
and, rahul beat kunal by 10 seconds. that means, kunal will finish the race after 10 seconds.
Than,
→ Rahul completes the race in = 30 + 10 = 40 seconds.
Now, given that, Rahul gives a start of 5 seconds to Kunal.
So,
- we can conclude that Rahul will start the race 5 seconds after kunal.
and,
→ Rahul completes the race in = 30 seconds.
than,
→ total time taken by rahul to finish the race = 30 + 5 = 35 seconds.
Also,
→ Kunal can finish the race in = 40 seconds.
Therefore,
→ This time, rahul beats kunal by = 40 - 35 = 5 seconds. (Ans.) (Option D).
Hence, He again beats kunal by 5 seconds in the race.
