By\:angle\:sum\:property

x+y+40=180

x+y=140 ----(i)

x-y=30(given)-------(ii)

From\:equation\:(i)

x=140-y \:\: ----------(iii)

We\:will\:substitute\:equation(iii)\:in\:\:equation(ii)

140-y-y=30

140-2y=30

-2y=30-140

2y=110

y=55

x+y=140

x+55=140

x=85
