$x+y+40=180$

$x+y=140 ----(i)$

$x-y=30(given)-------(ii)$

$From\:equation\:(i)$

$We\:will\:substitute\:equation(iii)\:in\:\:equation(ii)$

$140-y-y=30$

$140-2y=30$

$-2y=30-140$

$2y=110$

$y=55$

$x+y=140$

$x+55=140$

$x=85$
