Hey Mate here's the solution...

It's a square so, the length of path inside would be equal to that of square's
So, ar of of path = ar of big square -ar of small square
let Side of big square = x
Side of small square = x-4-4=x-8
So, 320=x²-(x-8)²
320=x²-(x²+64-16x)
320=x²-x²-64+16x
320+64/16=x
x=24
Now side of small square = 24-8=16
So area of small square i. e. Lawn =16²=256 m²

Hope it Will help you....

Hey mate,

Consider the side of the lawn be x

Given width of the path = 4m

Side of the lawn including path = x + 2(4m) = x + 8m

So, area of lawn = (Area of the lawn including the path) - (Area of the path)

Area of a square = (side)2

Therefore, we say :

x2 = (x + 8)2 – 320 m2

x2 = (x2 + 16x +64) - 320m2

x2 = x2+ 16x + 64 - 320

x2 = x2 + 16x - 256

x2 - 256 = x2 - 16x

x2 - x2 - 256 = -16x

-256 = -16x

i.e 256 = 16x

Therefore x = 16

Since the side of the lawn = 16 m

The area of the lawn = (16)2 or 256 m2.

hope this helps you out!
