I like the opening lines of the poem the best.
Faster than fairies, faster than witches,
Bridges and houses, hedges and ditches;
The poet’s usage of the words ‘fairies’ and ‘witches’ makes the poem magical. It creates a picture of fairies and their wands and also witches flying around on brooms, over the ‘bridges’, ‘houses’, ‘hedges’ and ‘ditches’. It also quickens the pace of the poem, because of the word ‘faster’. The journey thus sounds like a magical adventure that makes the child’s heart beat with excitement.
