World Environment Day is a United Nations platform for global action for encouraging global awareness for the protection of the environment. Since its inception in 1974, the day has gained popularity and is today celebrated enthusiastically across the globe.
It is celebrated in around 143 countries. The day inspires people to take action for protecting the environment, through an act. It could be a simple act of planting a tree or cleaning the neighborhood etc.
The idea is to make people aware of environmental issues and involve them in the effort for environmental protection and to reach Sustainable Development Goals. Every year a theme is assigned to World Environment Day, which brings forth a significant environmental concern.The events are hosted by a host country declared by the United Nations.
