We will simply follow the rules of solving an equation to arrive at pur conclusion.

Begin by writing the given equation as it is.

5x - 2 = 18

When we shift a term from LHS to RHS or vice versa then we change its sign, i.e. ( - ) becomes ( + ),

5x = 18 + 2

Performing simple addition in RHS,

5x = 20

When we shift a term from LHS to RHS or vice versa then if it is multiplying with a another term of same side, it is divided by the term(s) of another side,

x = 20 ÷ 5

Performing simple division in RHS,

x = 4
