  • 5x - 2y = 1

  • 3x + 4y = 4

_____________ [ GIVEN ]

• We have to find the value of x and y by elemination method.

_____________________________

→ 5x - 2y = 1 _______ (eq 1)

→ 3x + 4y = 4 _______ (eq 2)

Multiply (eq 1) with 3 and (eq 2) with 5

→ 5x - 2y = 1 (×3)

→ 15x - 6y = 3 _______ (eq 3)

→ 3x + 4y = 4 (×5)

→ 15x + 20y = 20 ______ (eq 4)

Now.. Subtract (eq 4) from (eq 3)

→ 15x - 6y - (15x + 20y) = 3 - 20

→ 15x - 6y - 15x - 20y = - 17

→ - 26y = - 17

→ 26y = 17

→ y = 17/26

Put value of y in (eq 1)

→ 5x - 2(17/26) = 1

→ 5x - 17/13 = 1

→ 5x = 1 + 17/13

→ 5x = (13 + 17)/13

→ 5x = 30/13

→ x = (30/13 × 5)

→ x = 6/13

✡ VERIFICATION :

From above calculations we have x = 6/13 and y = 17/26

Put value of x and y in (eq 1)

=> 5(6/13) - 2(17/26) = 1

=> 30/13 - 17/13 = 1

=> (30 - 17)/13 = 1

=> 13/13 = 1

=> 1 = 1
