5x + 2y = -3 } × 1

X + 5y = 4 } ×5

5x + 2y = -3

5x + 25y = 20

(-) (-) (-)

--------------------------

-23y = -23

y = 1

and

Putting the value of y = 1 on

X + 5y = 4

we get,

X + 5×1 = 4

X + 5 = 4

X = 4 - 5

X = -1

Hence,

X = -1

and

y = 1

here is your answer.....

Answer:

x = -1

y = 1

Step-by-step explanation:

5x + 2y = -3      ... (1)

 x + 5y =  4      ... (2)

Multiplying equation (2) by 5 gives:

5x + 25y = 20     ... (3)

Subtracting equation (1) from equation (3) gives:

(5x + 25y) - (5x + 2y) = 20 - (-3)

=> 23y = 23

=> y = 1

Substituting this into equation (2) gives:

x = 4 - 5y = 4 - 5 = -1.
